Admiral Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Panglima Dr. Ahmad Kamarulzaman Hj Ahmad Badaruddin (Retired) has served the King and country for 42 years. He achieved a peak in his career as he assumed command of the 16th Royal Malaysian Navy Chief on 18 November 2015 before he effectively retired on 30 March 2019. During his tenure, Admiral Tan Sri Kamarul has been managing over 20,000 sailors with the annual operating and developing expenditure of about RM3 billion.

Admiral Kamarul has recently completed the the Advance Management Program (AMP) at Harvard Business School, Harvard University, Boston USA. He obtained his MBA from the University of Strathclyde Business School, Scotland in 1999 and MA in Defense Studies and International Relations from the National University of Malaysia in 2003. He also completed the Executive Program in Business Management at Kenan-Flagler Business School, University of North Carolina, USA. He is a Distinguished Graduate of the Fu Hshing Kang College, Republic of China in Political Warfare as well as the US Naval War College, Newport, Rhode Island.

During his services, Admiral Kamarul transcending ideas on transformation and strategic management formulated the Royal Malaysian Navy’s 15to5 Transformation Program. His thoughts are regularly shared with Senior Management of Corporate Organisation, government agencies and universities. This include the Central Bank of Malaysia, Khazanah Nasional as well as several universities. Admiral Kamarul is also a regular regional and international speaker on Maritime Security, Innovation and Transformation in seminars and conferences such as ASEAN Navy Chiefs’ Meeting (ANCM) in Thailand, International Maritime Defence Exhibition and Conference Asia (IMDEX) in Singapore, International Seapower Symposium (ISS) in Rhode Island, USA and Ditchley Foundation Conference in the United Kingdom.

Currently, he still keeps himself active by knowledge sharing via lectures on leadership and management at three local universities namely University of Malaysia, Terengganu, University of Malaysia, Kelantan and University of Malaysia, Sabah.

Admiral Kamarul has strong and established strategic network within the Government as well as corporate organizations in Malaysia. Due to his vast international exposure, He has been appointed as Board of Director in four public listed companies which are Boustead Heavy Industries Corporation (BHIC), T7 Global Berhad, OCR Group Berhad, TRC Synergy Berhad and other private companies in Malaysia. He does advisory and consulting roles on business transformation, strategic initiatives, turnaround, integration and global networking. He also still maintains good relationship and networking within the international domain, particularly the Middle East, ASEAN, United State of America, China, India, and Japan.

In appreciation of his contribution and dedication, he has been bestowed with numerous local and foreign as well as academic recognitions. Among the notable are The Order of King Abdulaziz (Excellent Grade) from the Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in 2017, the Nishan-i-Imtiaz (Military) from the President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and Order of Legion d’Honneur from the Government of France, Pingat Setia Mahkota (PSM) which carries the title ‘Tan Sri’ and Panglima Gagah Angkatan Tentera (PGAT) by His Majesty the King of Malaysia,. He has been conferred two Honorary Doctorates (Management) from UNITAR International University and the University of Malaysia, Terengganu.
